Projects

For the last three years I have been traveling to the Mojave Desert near Twentynine Palms, California. On my last visit, I brought with me a pop-up studio and captured the process of making drip paintings with time lapse, long exposure photography. I’m interested in those images where I become transparent, ghostly, in contrast to the clarity of the surroundings. A brief moment in time in my own little world. I included these images in an artist book titled "Time Passing in the Mojave Desert," edition of 5.

In the collaborative project, "Papersound," Joki worked with composer, Chris Auerbach-Brown, in creating a room-scale visual and sound installation. Auerbach-Brown's electronic composition is inspired by Joki's imagined mappings of sound.
